Alessandro Mendini (1931 - 2019) was born in Milan, Italy, and graduated from the prestigious Politecnico di Milano in 1959 with a degree in architecture. From 1979 through 1985, Mendini was the editor-in-chief of Domus magazine. As a designer and an architect, Mendini has always been at the forefront of Italian Radical Design - his designs throughout the 1970s and 1980s challenged preconceived notions of how an object can look let alone function. The recipient of numeous prestigious design awards including the Compasso d'Oro, Mendini's work is included in the permanent collections of numerous museums worldwide. He has collaborated with numerous manufacturers and brands including Alessi, Artemide, Caimi, Cappellini, Cartier, Comforty, FSB, Ghidini, Gufram, Hermes, Kartell, Memphis Milano, Olivari, Porro, Studio Alchimia, Supreme, Swarovski, and Venini.
