Uniquely crafted of hand-blown glass and innovative guided light technology, Empatia's balance between surface and light makes it a pure craft object. Its transparency and opacity are visually balanced to obtain a two-toned glass diffuser that reflects light without glare or loss of light efficiency. The diffuser is partially blown by hand in crystal glass. While the crystal is still warm, the upper part of the bubble is immersed in incandescent white glass, allowing the white layer to cling to the transparent one. The process continues with an oven phase, when the glass is turned in a wooden half-mold. The two-toned glass is then inflated in a cast iron mold that defines the right shape. While expanding, the border between crystal and white areas fades, creating the final unique shaded optical effect. The white-painted glass bottom plate within the diffuser reflects light created by the central internal LED "pipe" composed of methacrylate. The die-cast aluminum base in painted white finish holds a touch dimmer. Available in three sizes. Manufactured by Artemide.
