Throughout the 1950s Serge Mouille designed large, angular, insect-like ceiling-mounted and standing lamps with several arms along with smaller wall-sconces - all engender a kinetic, sculptural aesthetic that evoke a movement. Mouille claimed his lighting fixtures were "a reaction to the Italian models, which were beginning to invade the market in 1950," and which he thought to be "too complicated." His designs from this period were shown mainly at the legendary Steph Simon Gallery in Paris that also exhibited the work of Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Isamu Noguchi, and Jean Luce. Mouille's designs have been widely exhibited and are included in the permanent collections of New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
Noted here is the 2 Straight Arm Rotating wall sconce with square mounting plate. The arms rotate rotate individually and each shade tilts and swivels to allow for greater flexibility. The shades interiors are white. Dual switch is located on the mounting plate. Available in black or white with brass fittings. Lamp includes a certificate of authenticity by the manufacturer. Manufactured by Serge Mouille in France.
