The Alleegasse sofa was created as part of an upholstered suite of furniture designed specifically for Dr. Hugo Koller's music room as part of the furnishings for his Vienna apartment in Alleegasse. This sofa form is an iconic example of Hoffman's work in the 1910s. The designer has deconstructed the back into vertical sections that culminate at the sofa's top perimeter with a gentle downturned gesture. He uses braided piping synergistically with the upholstery to function as an engaging way of outlining the various elements that comprise the sofa's form. The spherical form that figured prominently in the designer's work in the first decade of the 20th century now provides "visual punctuation" as base finials for the elegant treatment of Alleegasse's legs. Most of Hoffmann's furniture designs were site-specific pieces - Wittmann expertly recreates these Hoffmann designs under license from the Josef Hoffmann Foundation. Manufactured by Wittmann.
