Founded in 1927 by brothers Cesare and Umberto Cassina, the Cassina brand grew dramatically in the mid 20th century with the development of important designs by Gio Ponti and Vico Magistretti.  In the 1960s, Cassina acquired the rights to produce the now iconic collaborative designs by Le Corbusier, Charlotte Perriand, and Pierre Jeanneret.  This "I Maestri Collection" was expanded in the 1970s and 1980s to include important designs by Gerrit Rietveld, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and Frank Lloyd Wright.  While continuing to build its I Maestri Collection with expanded collections by Le Corbusier and Perriand along with Ico Parisi, Franco Albini, Meret Oppenheim, Man Ray, Carlo Scarpa, Marco Zanuso, and Dino Gavina.  Cassina's research into new materials and technologies has created important new designs in the late 20th and early 21st centuries with work by Philippe Starck, Piero Lissoni, Gaetano Pesce, Paolo Deganello, Mario Bellini, Patricia Urquiola, Michael Anastassiades, to name but a few.  Cassina designs have received numerous accolades over the decades with regular inclusion in the permanent collections of major museums worldwide.
