Tom Dixon's now classic Beat Light Series has two new additions - Beat Waist and Beat Flat. Introduced in 2016, these new diffuser shapes (shown in the right side photo flanking Beat Stout) complement the original designs that include Beat Fat, Beat Stout, Beat Wide, and Beat Tall.

The entire Beat Light Series of suspension lamps was inspired by a trip taken by Tom Dixon and his Royal College students to the Moradabad district of India known for its production of brass objects. Indeed, Moradabad's nickname is Pital Nagri (Brass City). While observing local craftspeople manipulating the surface of spun brass by both beating and polishing the material, the qualities of light refraction and diffusion became readily apparent. The diffuser shapes in the Beat Light range were actually inspired by the various pots and vessels fabricated in brass as well as the shapes of domes used in Indian architecture.

When first introduced, the four diffuser shapes were available with a choice of matte black or glossy white exterior finishes - each includes a similarly finished ceiling canopy as well as a black or white suspension cord. All interiors sport a beaten texture that exquisitely refracts light that has been clear-coated to prevent oxidation.
All Beat Lights have a beaten brass interior - specifically for the matte gray exterior finish, the interiors of each diffuser shape are silver plated.
These latest additions - Beat Waist (left) and Beat Flat (right) - are only available with a matte black exterior finish. These new shapes beautifully complement the existing range of shapes providing not only fresh silhouettes but a scale that works particularly well with the original Beat Fat and Beat Stout suspension lights.
