Arborescence is a family of suspension, floor, and table lamps. Its name denotes – in both French and English – the growth associated with a tree. This overarching metaphor has been visually translated by designer Herve Langlais into a form where three tubular pieces of solid brass either “grow” upward like a tree’s trunk from a disc-shaped base splaying outward like branches or traverse downward from a canopy splaying like a tree’s roots. Each of these tubular rods cants at an angle away from its stem-like cluster creating a cradle for a cylindrical paper shade. Each of these three “branches” or “roots” is expressed at a different length – the resulting asymmetry and juxtaposition of materials provides tremendous visual interest. The Arborescence lamp base is slightly elevated from the floor by the addition of integrated underside cylinders. This not only creates an unexpected levity within the floor lamp’s overall form but pragmatically provides an elegant “exit solution” for the lamp’s textile cord. UL listed. The Arborescence floor lamp is available in six versions – three small and three large – the former are noted here. Each version is available with a choice of finishes; cylindrical DropPaper shade is also available with a choice of color.
