Cercle et Trait is as much mesmerizing illuminated sculpture as it is suspension light. Designed by Duo Pool – the Paris-based creative studio of Léa Padovani and Sébastien Kieffer – Cercle et Trait made its debut as an editioned piece in 2014 at Interieur Kortrijk. We are delighted that it has recently become a production piece. Like so many of Duo Pool’s furniture and lighting designs, Cercle et Trait is also an exploration of the relationship of geometric forms and their associated volumes. This suspension light features a tubular rod that houses the downwardly-directed LED light source – it has been suspended by a cord that is visually “pulled” through the negative space of an upright circle. One is instantly struck by the light’s seemingly implausible physicality yet enamored with its precisely engineered “imbalance” that makes Cercle et Trait suspension light oh-so intellectually satisfying.
