As much sculpture as it is table, Desalto's Clay Collection was first presented at the 2015 Milan Furniture Fair and has subsequently been the recipient of numerous design awards including the Iconic Design Award (2015), Good Design Award (2016), and Red Dot Award - Product Design (2016). The concept of the Clay dining table is simple - two conical volumes touching one another in a seemingly gravity-defying way. The resulting aesthetic is a perfect balance of the interaction of these geometric volumes where top and base, balanced one atop the other, experience the bold support of a section reduced to a minimum. Clay's base is composed of rigid polyurethane available in a range of lacquered finishes or covered with hand-applied materic finishes. A wide range of options are also available for the top including glass, ceramic, stone, and materic finishes. Clay is available in several shapes - noted here is the round version with integrated lazy susan - upon request, this revolving "centerpiece" can also be presented as flush with the top.
