Designed by: Pierre Chareau
Manufactured by: Ecart International
The sweeping curves and broad profile of Pierre Chareau's nearly century old Curcule stool design challenges preconceived notions of how a stool looks. Rather than the seat being supported by underside legs or a base, the concave seat is suspended within the dramatic frame than flanks either side of the stool. This "side frame" features beautifully curved corners that dip paralleling the seat. Chareau's atypical manipulation of materials allows the viewer to focus on the stool's underside negative space that has quite literally been "framed" (and thoroughly objectified) by the designer. This low stool is perfect as visual punctuation within an interior. Composed of sycamore wood; available in several finishes. Manufactured by Ecart International.
