The Smoke lounge chair is part of a collection of furniture that has quite literally been "finished with fire" - engendering dramatic and novel aesthetics. The unexpected beauty and ephemeral essence of charred wood has been captured in a structurally stable way through the frame's treatment with a special epoxy finish. The black leather upholstery is the perfect complement to the lounge chair's charred black finish. Due to the manufacturing process, each lounge chair is similar yet ultimately unique. Maarten Baas (born 1978 in Arnsberg, Germany) is a Dutch designer that grew up in the southwest and central region of the Netherlands. In 1996, he began his studies Design Academy Eindhoven. Baas is known for his work – playful, rebellious, intellectual, conceptual, theatrical – that blurs the boundaries between fine art and design. His work is part of the permanent collections of museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, New York; Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Musée des Arts Decoratifs, Paris; Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco; Die Neue Sammlung, Munich; and the Stedelijk Museum and Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
