Atollo lamp Vico Magistretti, Oluce, 1977. This design icon is celebrating 40 years of continuous production. This photo illustrates the three available sizes of the Atollo lamp as well as three of its finishes - brushed gold along with black or white in glossy finishes.
Since its introduction in 1977, Vico Magistretti's Atollo lamp has become an icon of 20th century lighting design and a well-known symbol of Italian design. The Atollo lamp was the recipient of prestigious Compasso d'Oro in 1979 and was quickly included in the permanent collections of several museums worldwide including New York's Museum of Modern Art and Munich's Die Neue Sammlung.
In addition to the white, black, and gold finishes, the Atollo lamp is also available in the aforementioned three sizes in a frosted/opal glass. The small and medium versions sport an inline on/off switch; the large version of Atollo also features an inline dimmer slide.
These photos of the Atollo lamp beautifully illustrate the illusion that the hemispherical diffuser is hovering above or precariously balances upon an imagined point of its concially-tipped cylindrical base.
The Atollo lamp's engaging form instantly becomes a focal point on a hallway console or bedside table.
