Christophe Pillet designed Berlin, an object that calls into question the common understanding of the ceiling light, turning its traditional discreet character upside down to transform it into an elegant and decorative feature. Available in the ø40 ceiling version or the ø30 version for use either as a ceiling light or wall light, Berlin takes the form of a thick metal ring with a slender profile enclosing a disc of wire mesh glass inside it. The satin brass finishing recalls echoes of Art Deco, given a contemporary update in the shapes, and in the use of LED as the light source. UL listed, Manufactured by Oluce.

Established in 1945, Oluce is the oldest Italian lighting design company that is still active today. Over the past seven decades, Oluce has worked with several visionary designers like Joe Colombo, Vico Magistretti, and Marco Zanuso to create masterpieces of 20th century design – Atollo, Spider, Acrilica, and Coupe – that are now included in museum collections worldwide. Oluce continues its tradition of innovation in a new century with critically acclaimed new designs by Nendo, Laudani & Romanelli, Camapana Brothers, Mist-o, Carlo Colombo, and Franceso Rota.
Christophe Pillet (born 1959 in Montargis, France) graduated in 1985 from the Academy of Decorative Arts, Nice, France, and then completed a post-graduate course in Milan at the Domus Academy. He subsequently worked in Milan with Martine Bedin before moving to Paris, where he worked with Philippe Starck from 1988 to 1993. Over the course of his career, he has designed for a number of top brands, including Cappellini, Driade, Kartell, L'Oreal, Moroso, Shiseido, and Tacchini. His products range from architecture and interior design to home furnishings designs such as chairs and vases. Christophe Pillet makes a point of not limiting himself to a single style, yet rather experiments with a variety of aesthetics. In an interview with Azure Magazine, he said that “In my opinion, it's not important to have a style; it's more important to do things 'with' style. Being too coherent in your work can get a little dry.”
