The Las floor lamp gets its acronymic name from the iconic photograph entitled Lunch Atop a Skyscraper by American photographer, Charles Clyde Ebbets. Taken in the fall of 1932, it shows a group of workers enjoying their lunch on a steel girder on the 69th floor of the nearly-completed RCA building seemingly floating above the Manhattan skyline. With its precision laser-cut aluminum plate structure composed of asymmetrically organized horizontal and vertical profiles, LAS schematically resembles a skyscraper or a midcentury brutalist sculpture. Employing LED technology within three of these horizontal profiles – its higher elevation rectilinear “beams” diffuse light upward; its lower one diffuses it downward.
