The Sonora light is perhaps the purest expression of Vico Magistretti’s lifetime fascination with exploring the form of the hemisphere in his lighting designs. Sonora was designed in the mid 1970s and its simple form has tremendous visual presence – indeed, it becomes like a “floating volume” within the interior volume of any space in which it is located. Since its introduction, Sonora has been recontextualized in various exterior finishes, the treatment of its interior, and even different materials like glass and PMMA. Noted here is the Sonora suspension light composed of PMMA with an interior finish in gold – this infuses the overarching minimalism of this iconic design with an unexpected luxuriousness. UL listed.
