As much sculpture as it is seating, Riva 1920's Wedge bench is distinguished by its "shim-like" wedge-shaped form in solid cedar with a sleek, linear iron base that supports the beautifully tapered cedar block seating expanse. The juxtaposition of the solid cedar with the minimalist canted base is extraordinary! Approaching the Wedge bench, one is immediately struck by the negative space on its underside that infuses the overall form with levity. Movement, cracks, and changes to the form's surface are to be expected and embraced - these are all simply characteristic of the solid cedar wood from which they are made and only add to the overall aesthetics of the piece.
