Throughout the 1950s Serge Mouille designed large, angular, insect-like ceiling-mounted and standing lamps with several arms along with smaller wall-sconces - all engender a kinetic, sculptural aesthetic that evoke a movement. Mouille claimed his lighting fixtures were "a reaction to the Italian models, which were beginning to invade the market in 1950," and which he thought to be "too complicated." His designs from this period were shown mainly at the legendary Steph Simon Gallery in Paris that also exhibited the work of Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Isamu Noguchi, and Jean Luce. Mouille's designs have been widely exhibited and are included in the permanent collections of New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
Noted here is the 1 Arm Double Swivel wall sconce featuring dual swivel on a round mounting plate. The white interior lamp shade tilts and swivels for greater flexibility. Canopy is fitted with a white push-button on/off switch. Available in black or white with brass fittings. Lamp includes a certificate of authenticity. Manufactured by Serge Mouille in France.
