Designed by: Serge Mouille
Manufactured by: Serge Mouille
Throughout the 1950s Serge Mouille designed large, angular, insect-like ceiling-mounted and standing lamps with several arms along with smaller wall-sconces - all engender a kinetic, sculptural aesthetic that evoke a movement. Mouille claimed his lighting fixtures were "a reaction to the Italian models, which were beginning to invade the market in 1950," and which he thought to be "too complicated." His designs from this period were shown mainly at the legendary Steph Simon Gallery in Paris that also exhibited the work of Jean Prouvé, Charlotte Perriand, Isamu Noguchi, and Jean Luce. Mouille's designs have been widely exhibited and are included in the permanent collections of New York's Museum of Modern Art and the Centre Pompidou, Paris.
Noted here is the Eye wall sconce - an iconic Mouille design that features an "eye-shaped" diffuser that projects from the wall from a round mounting plate. As the diffuser shade will tilt and swivel, this becomes an ideal lighting solution for a number of interior applications. The switch is located on the mounting plate. Available in black or white with brass fittings. The shade interior is white. Lamp includes a certificate of authenticity by the manufacturer. Manufactured by Serge Mouille in France.
