The Beat Light Series of suspension lights was inspired by a trip to India taken by Tom Dixon and his Royal College students. While observing craftspeople manipulating the surface of spun brass by both beating and polishing the material, the qualities of light refraction and diffusion became evident. The diffuser shapes in the range were actually inspired by the various pots and vessels fabricated in brass.
Noted here is the Beat Stout Suspension Light that features a bulbous form that evokes the dome shapes associated with Indian architecture. It’s composed of smoothly polished brass that is available in several finishes – shown here with a gloss white exterior. Its interior sports a beaten texture that exquisitely refracts light that has been clear-coated to prevent oxidation. Matching ceiling canopy is in a gloss white finish. Manufactured by Tom Dixon.
