The Beat Light Series of suspension lights was inspired by a trip to India taken by Tom Dixon and his Royal College students. While observing craftspeople manipulating the surface of spun brass by both beating and polishing the material, the qualities of light refraction and diffusion became evident. The diffuser shapes in the range were actually inspired by the various pots and vessels fabricated in brass.
Noted here is the Beat Wide Suspension Light that features a saucer-like diffuser composed of smoothly polished brass that is available in several finishes – shown here with a brushed brass exterior; its interior sports a beaten texture that exquisitely refracts light. Both exterior and interior have been clear-coated to prevent oxidation. Ceiling canopy is in a matte black finish. Manufactured by Tom Dixon.
