Tom Dixon’s Melt is a series of distorted spherical lights, half-metallized to create an extraordinary optic effect and cast an ethereal luminosity on their surroundings. Melt was the result of a collaboration between Dixon and the Swedish design collective, Front, experimenting in the technologically advanced field of both blow molding and vacuum metallization resulting in melted orbs that provide extraordinary luminosity. Melt appears hyper-reflective when off yet transforms into a translucent color when light is diffused through it – indeed, as light bounces about the uneven surfaces, Melt appears like a glob of molten glass.
Melt is available in several sizes and finishes – noted here is the Melt Floor Chandelier that sports seven Melt Lights in various sizes that emanate like globular branches from a gold finish steel tripod. Manufactured by Tom Dixon.
