Designed by: Frederick Kiesler
Manufactured by: Wittmann
Frederick Kiesler's high concept Party Lounge sofa was created in 1935 for the Mergentime residence in New York. Textile designer, Marguerita Mergentime, and her husband Charles, commissioned Kiesler to design the interiors and furnishings for their apartment in the recently-built Beresford building on Central Park West. Kiesler developed several pieces for this interior including his much celebrated aluminum biomorphic nesting tables, Party Lounge sofa, and the Freischwinger NR. 2 cantilever lounge chair. The Party Lounge was developed to be mobile and accessible from all sides. A portion of the horizontal seating expanse can be raised to create a back allowing this to become a sofa while leaving an engaging perimeter of seating. Kiesler's intent was to accommodate up to six people - indeed, a party. A brilliant design for which Kiesler sought a patent in 1936. Available in a wide range of fabric and leather upholstery options. Manufactured by Wittmann.
