Designed by: Carlo Mollino
Manufactured by: Zanotta
Carlo Mollino was inspired by the work of Dada and Surreal artist, Jean Arp, and this is clearly evident in his Arabesco coffee table. The coffee table's design was laboriously engineered by Italian cabinetmakers Apelli & Varesio that devised a system of gluing thin layers of maple together which was heated to mold the atypical "free form" base. Now produced by Zanotta, the Arabesco CM coffee table has a bent plywood frame veneered with natural or black varnished oak; wax-finished varnish. The frame is attached to the top with an internally threaded screw. Top shelf in tempered plate glass; bottom shelf in tempered plate glass, both either extra-clear, matching the frames in natural oak or in smoky grey plate glass, matching the black varnished oak frame. Manufactured by Zanotta.

“Many people might deem it an exaggeration to present the products of just one manufacturer as a ‘micromodel’ of Italian furniture design in its entirety. However, if it makes no sense to claim that Zanotta’s production alone represents all the key moments of the Italian design history of the last sixty years, we must admit that this history could not be written without referring to its contribution.” - Emilio Ambasz, 1988. From its inception in 1954, Zanotta has been known for the quality, function, and comfort of its furniture designs – all underscored with a remarkable commitment to research and experimentation with materials and technology to enable new aesthetics. Zanotta’s catalogue of iconic modern and contemporary designs chronicles the evolution of Italian furniture design within the 20th and 21st centuries.
