Overview

Sebastian Herkner, renowned for his explorations of glass in unexpected ways, designed Echino to use glass as the base. The Echino small table features two different sizes that are complementary, creating a great visual synergy when used together. Echino features three cylindrical legs composed of layered blown glass with a choice of available colors. Tops are composed of sheet steel that is available in natural or black nickel-satin finish as well as the option of a mirrored top. The structured surface of the legs shows parallel striations which look slightly oblique and provide Echino's unique and engaging aesthetics. The juxtaposition of the materials - steel and glass - and their associated placement within the form is striking. Manufactured by Zanotta.

Sebastian Herkner

Sebastian Herkner (born 1981 in Bad Mergentheim, Germany) studied product design at Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) Offenbach am Main, focusing on designing objects and furniture. In 2006, he founded his own studio for objects, interiors, and exhibition design. In the designer's own words, "There is a sensitivity and identity to my work that emphasizes the function, the material and the detail. I transport and interpret characteristics from various contexts of society and culture and implement them in new artefacts. This character infuses the most everyday objects with respect and personality. In this manner, seemingly contrary things can experience esteem." Herkner has worked with several manufacturers including &Tradition, Agape, Buschfeld, Cappellini, ClassiCon, Dedon, Emu, Fontana Arte, GAN, Gebruder T 1819, Gloster, Gubi, Linteloo, La Chance, Moroso, Pulpo, Rosenthal, Sancal, Schonbuch, Schramm, Wittmann, and Zanotta. Herkner has been the recipient of numerous awards including Designer of the Year at 2019's Maison&Objet, Paris.
