Jacques Biny (1913 - 1976 ) was born in Valence, France, and graduated from the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. After graduation, Biny worked as a decorator. No pleased with the extant lighting that was available, he started to develop his own lighting designs for clients. He returned to Paris in 1950 and founded Luminalite - his own lighting manufacturing workshop. His designs are sought by collectors and his work has been featured in numerous exhibitions. In his own words, "It is the search for the correct balance between the rigors of the technique and an aesthetic which integrates with contemporary architecture that has guided the creation of my lights."
